"August 20th,
in the Year of our Lady 507
When me and the other boys first got to the fort, it was
a ghost town. Well, not quite. The bodies were still there. I thought I'd seen a lot, fighting in battles and what not, but
it was nothing compared to what I saw in the little town. The bodies of those who had recently hung themselves to escape the
misery of the valley were still twitching, the Tween or the zhemeley having taken the opportunity to harvest a fresh corpse.
We disposed of what was still moving and burned the bodies, not wanting to draw the attention of the infamous Inquisition.
None of us wanted to die for the malevolence of others. That group is known for burning everything in sight; just to make
sure...
I couldn't imagine what those poor folks had to deal with until this August. The drums of war beat for days
as the Sugnar dwarves prepared to destroy us. They had everyone terrified and arming their guns and swords for the battle
to come. The sheriff and Mayor had everyone getting in the best of shape and pumping out bandages and potions, and all of
the Clerics were on their knees praying day and night. Then the dwarves disappeared. They were no where to be found, but we
didn't dare hope they had left. The second night of the rendezvous came around and out of nowhere, an unknown second enemy
appeared. I've always known the dreaded Goretooth orc clan were a serious terrifying threat to the valley, but for them to
appear at the same time as the Sugnars - I figured we were all dead men walking. Then the orcs did something unexpected. They
flew a truthful flag of truce. The dwarves were their enemies, too, and they were here to make a temporary truce with us to
flank the dwarves from the rear and force them where we wanted them. The drums of war began beating again and we had no choice
but to trust the Goretooths. Luckily, they were telling the truth and did as they said. We thought we would be fine with their
help, but we were very wrong.
Bombs started to fall from the sky and blasted the town apart. Brave citizens flew everywhere.
Many of the bravest fighters charged the troops and fought the incredibly strong female dwarves. The battle took a turn for
the worse when we realized they had brought Valkyries with them! The town began to retreat to the holy ground of the Temple
of Eluna as more and more fell to the enemy's forces. Soon it seemed all of town was dead. A miracle occurred and I saw townsfolk
begin to rise and fight again and soon after the dwarves finally retreated, dragging their conquests of war after them. The
dwarves had stolen much that was important to the town. The citizens are recovering slowly, but only time will tell if we
can handle another onslaught so soon and it seems the valley is always full of threats hoping to steal our sanity and souls.
